Since 1927 Sifam has successfully designed, manufactured, and progressively engineered, a comprehensive range of analogue meters. Our portfolio of products was developed further in the 1970's to include a complete range of digital panel meters, control knobs (for push-on, collet and set screw applications) and accessories for OEM's and private concerns world-wide.

Operating from its 68,000 square foot facility in Torquay, South West England and employing some 150 staff, our skilled, flexible and loyal workforce ensure the majority of our products are designed and manufactured in house allowing products to be adapted to suit individual customer needs. Sifam Instruments Ltd. was acquired in 2007 by the Elektron plc. This acquisition gives Sifam greater access to increased manufacturing facilities within a larger Group, including tooling and production facilities in China, which in turn benefits both Sifam and the customer in terms of capability and cost.

Range of Services

Custom Design for Manufacturer - CAD Facilities

From the initial meeting we work closely with our customers to ensure we understand their requirements and the end product meets specification, is cost effective in terms of component and assembly costs, and is manufactured in a timely and efficient manner to satisfy customer expectations

We can offer a 'one-stop' service from initial concept and detail design through to tooling, second operations and component assembly.

Using the latest in 3D design software (Solidworks) our Engineering design department evaluate analyse and creatively form customers products prior to production - this process can include

  • Initial download of customer drawings/designs in most CAD formats. Acceptable files include
  • STL,SAT,IGES,STEP, e-drawings, jpgs, Tif, DXF Pro-E
  • Designing of assembled components to accommodate customer's requirements and any additional changes to specifications during the design process
  • Evaluation and feasibility of manufacturing the product, through SLA modelling
  • Recommendation of best material use, based on design and manufacturing process
  • Providing full quotations for manufacture based on customer's approved designs


Tooling Capabilities

Through collaboration with our parent company's subsidarys in China, we now have the added advantage of being able to source tooling at lower cost, with manufacturing control still at our Torquay site. Our international manufacturing links give us the opportunity to offer other cost competitive processes including in-mould decoration and chrome plating without compromising on quality


Multi-Shot Moulding

Injection Moulding

Our experienced engineers can offer a fully bespokel moulding service from design to finished product, working closely with our customers to ensure perfection. Our injection moulding facilities include 18 moulding machines; 9 single shot, 8 two shot and 1 three shot machine which have a clamping force of between 25 and 175 tonnes and shot weights from 27g to 1.83kg.

We offer soft and hard touch moulding from single to multi impression dedicated tools. Capacity can be 1,000 pieces to 1 million pieces and we are pleased to offer a stock hold and call off service if required. Moulding materials are subject to customer specification but are commonly Nylon, Polypropylene or ABS and colours are again matched to customers' specification.

Compression Moulding

A more traditional method of moulding than injection moulding, Sifam's plant machines can offer a clamping force of between 50 and 150 tonnes.

Finishing Services

Sifam's expertise in printing includes initial design and preparation of graphics, colour matching and jig manufacture through to the finished printed product.

Our in-house printing facility includes 12 pad printing machines, 1 hot foil printing machine and screen printing.

Printing can be achieved on a variety of materials such as Nylon, ABS and Crastin in a variety of colours and we would be happy to advise on the most suitable for your product.

Hot foil printing enables us to produce a metallic finish whilst pad printing achieves a profile print i.e non flat. Some examples of products which have been printed include

  • Pens
  • USB memory sticks.

Our screen printing facilities achieve high quality print in a variety of colours for items such as product packaging and dial printing.

Assembly

In addition to our moulding and finishing capabilities Sifam can offer a number of secondary operations. These include mechanical and electrical assembly, blanking and ultra sonic welding.
