QUEENSGATE SPONSOR LOCAL ROWING TEAM IN ATLANTIC CHALLENGE

LIVING CHALLENGE 2004

On Wednesday 3rd December 2003 a South West team will launch their bid to be the first four-man crew to row the Atlantic Ocean.

The launch of the project, sponsored by Queensgate Instruments Ltd, takes place at Living Coasts in Torquay, Devon.

The team, in their 24 foot boat ëQueensgateí, will set out from La Gomera, in the Canary Islands, on 20th January 2004. The 3,000 mile row to Barbados is expected to take about 60 days. It will not only take courage and sheer physical effort but will be a test of friendship, the ability to work as a team and, most of all, will challenge their mental stamina.

Living Coasts, Paignton Zooís marine aviary at Torquay, will be asking the team to observe and log marine data, while Paignton Zoo will be asking team members to monitor their interactions. Scientists will then observe conflict management during tense situations onboard the boat and compare this to how the Zoo's group of four bachelor gorillas react to resolve conflict. The gorillas are currently being studied for a PhD by Zoo researcher Kirsten Pullen.

In supporting this world record attempt, Queensgate Instruments Ltd, Living Coasts and Paignton Zoo hope to achieve worldwide recognition of a major nautical challenge whilst enhancing the understanding of our natural marine environment and continuing research into the behaviour of man and primates

SIFAM INTRODUCE UV FLUORESCENT AND PHOSPHORECENT OPTION

UK manufacturer, SIFAM INSTRUMENTS LIMITED is pleased to introduce an exciting no cost, additional option to our already extensive range of push on and collet control knobs

In meeting the changing needs of industry, SIFAM offers the UV and Phosphorescent line option particularly with the audio markets in mind.

As implied in the name the UV Fluorescent ''glows" under UV light and the Phosphorescent, once charged by either daylight or artificial light, can be seen under dark conditions for a length of time proportional to the amount of charge it has received.

SIFAMís UV Fluorescent and Phosphorescent options can be incorporated in the white indicator line on all 2 shot push-on and 2 shot collet knobs irrespective of whether the outer body is hard or soft touch material. This is achieved by the addition of an additive in the first shot moulding which incorporates the indicator line. The standard body colour is black, however as with all SIFAM control knobs, an alternative selection of colours is available to special order.

In addition to standard 2 shot control knobs the UV Fluorescent effect can be achieved in the printing of conventional push-on and collet knobs together with appropriate accessories such as caps and nut covers. Apart from white printing other colours can be offered.
